Children’s Futures: Lessons From a Second-Generation Community Change Initiative

Children’s Futures is a 10-year, Trenton, NJ initiative to improve the health and well-being of children zero to three years and ensure that they are ready for school. Begun in 2002 and funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, initiative leaders planned to avoid past mistakes of CCIs by focusing initial efforts on a relatively narrow age range and using evidence-based practices to ease implementation. Like other CCIs, Children’s Futures convenes partners from various institutional sectors to provide services to Trenton’s families.
